Review: Smashbox Complexion Try it Kit

Smashbox Complexion Try it Kit in Light

Heyyyy ladies!! It has been way too long since I have put up a blog post. SO SORRY!! Anyways lets get to my review on these products that come in this kit. I bought this kit in Sephora for $49 in the shade light. All of the products do match my skin well. I'd say the foundation does have yellow undertones in it which is perfect for me since I have both yellow and beige undertones in my skin.

Smashbox High Definition foundation: This product has 0.5 fl. oz. and claims to have antiaging and firming ingredients that help to make the skin smoother and provides vitamin c to fight free radicals. This foundation also claims to leave the skin flawless with its lightweight coverage. First off I wouldn't say this foundation is a must have. My Neutrogena Shine Control foundation is ten times better than this. This foundation is light coverage and buildable to a slight medium coverage and gives a dewy finish but isn't too greasy. When I bought this set I had high hopes for it since this is a high end line. I am extremely disappointed with this foundation because it does nothing to cover up my problem areas and just isn't worth the money at all. For all of the high definition hype I was expecting to be wowed by this foundation, but instead I was sadly disappointed. The one fluid ounce full size foundation is worth $39. However this foundation would probably be good for someone who doesn't have oily skin or trouble areas and who is looking for a lightweight and light coverage foundation, but be aware that this foundation is not worth $39 and will not give you a high definition finish at all so I suggest you just buy this kit and test it out first. I also do not like the pump on this foundation, it was poorly made and makes a mess as you pump the foundation out.

Halo To Go Hydrating Perfecting Powder: This powder has 0.25 oz. This powder has many claims to it such as it being the very first anti-aging powder that has the science of skin care built in it and has a formulation of pure gold, 48 minerals, 11 amino acids and a powerful peptide. I can go on and on with the description of this powder, but I won't because I honestly am not satisfied with this powder either. Maybe its just me, but whenever I make a high end purchase I expect so much from the product. This powder is not amazing or any different from drugstore powders. I only used this powder a few times along with the foundation and I wasn't impressed. It did not give a medium or full coverage, it was a rather light coverage. I now have the powder in my mua kit to use it on clients that prefer a light coverage. The packaging of this product will make a mess just like the Elf & Makeup Forever translucent powders so be careful when you open it.

High Definition Concealer: The concealer has 0.2 oz. This claims to have a weightless liquid formula that gives a natural finish and provides buildable coverage. When I first tried this concealer I was impressed by it and the full coverage it gave. Now this concealer is good and lives up to what it claims. The only thing that
I don't like about this concealer is the applicator. You have to be careful when you squeeze out the concealer and that you don't press too hard because a lot will come out. With this concealer all you need is a little to cover dark circles or blemishes.  The full size concealer is 27 oz. and is for $20. Honestly if you have the Hard Candy Glamoflauge concealer than you don't need this concealer. Both concealers are similar, but the Hard Candy concealer is much better than this one and has more coverage.

Photo Finish Foundation Primer: Their is 0.25 oz. in this primer. This claims to be a sixty percent water based primer and is good for people that have oily, acne prone and sensitive skin. I do have to say that I honestly love this primer. It applies soft and smooth onto my skin and controls my oils. My foundation lasts for more than eight hours and stays in place all day. This is the only product I highly recommend from this kit!

All Around Thoughts
As you can tell I was not impressed with most of the products that came in this kit. This is a good try it kit for someone who would like to try out a few high end products. The only product I liked from this kit was the primer and maybe the concealer. You do not get full size products in this kit only samples. None of the products from this kit broke me out or gave me a bad reaction. I hope this review was helpful in some way. Revlon ColorStay Whipped VS. Neutrogena Shine Control foundation

Heyyy!!! Finally the time is here for me to do a smack down comparison with these two foundations that everyone is raving about. I did a review on the Revlon ColorStay Whipped Foundation a few weeks ago giving my thoughts on it. I did leave out the lasting power and other key points of this foundation because I wanted to add them to this comparison review. The reason I'm doing a comparison review with these two foundations is to show the similarities between the two. With that said lets begin!

Application.
Primer: After applying my moisturizer I then apply a primer
I bought in sallys beauty supply called >Femme Couture Flawless Touch Facial Primer<
Foundation: As I said in my previous review I use a spatula to scoop out the foundation then I apply it with my elf powder brush.
Powder: I apply >N.Y.C. Smooth Skin Loose Face Powder < in Translucent all over my face to set my foundation.

Lasting power.
I put this foundation to the test on a hot and sunny day which for me was a good day to try this foundation out to see how it holds up against the heat, sweat and my oily skin. I applied this foundation around 8 a.m, set it with powder then went on with my regular routine. I was out and about on this hot day running errands and then I noticed around 2 p.m my face began to look oily around my t zone so I blotted the areas that were oily and noticed that the foundation manages to stay in place and hold up after the sweat and oil have been blotted away. Then 8 p.m came around and I was still out in the sun and noticed my face was oily yet again which wasn't surprising for me. I blotted away the oil again and gave up. I then got home around 12 a.m and wow I was happy to take this foundation off because my face looked so oily and sweaty it was just not a pretty sight. I was out in the sun from around 9 a.m to 11 p.m., thats more than 12 hours with this foundation on. Bottom line this foundation does not last 24 hours like the label says and it does not hold up to hot sunny days. I understand that most foundations don't manage a long time and don't hold up with oily skin, but I had high hopes for this one. It does last a pretty good 7 hours which is average for a lot of foundations.

Smell.
The smell of this foundation reminds me of chemicals and playdoh. I notice the smell while applying the foundation, but then it fades away after application.

Overall thoughts.
After applying this foundation I do have to agree that this foundation does look better after a while when it sets onto your skin. It does not oxidize into a nasty orange color. Its very blendable and glides on smoothly. I love it, but I'm not in love with it. Has no sunscreen protection. Light to medium coverage.

Now its time for my review on the Neutrogena Shine Control makeup. I am in the shade natural beige 60 and I bought this foundation in Target for $12.00. This foundation does have SPF 20.

Application.
The application routine is the same as above. The only difference is I use a different brush. The brush I use is a flat buffer brush that came in a brush kit I purchased from >Coastal Scents<. This foundation does have rice protein complex so if you apply this foundation with your hands then you will feel the tiny grain of rice on your skin, but don't worry it does not feel rough or scratchy. The rice grains glide onto your skin and then fade away. When using a brush applying this foundation you don't feel the grains as much on your skin.

Lasting power.
I have worn this foundation more times than the Revlon foundation this summer and I have to say this foundation to me is much better than the whipped foundation. This foundation holds up on hot days and does tame my oily skin. I love it! The claims on the label say that this foundation is lightweight, breathable and gives a natural look and I agree with that one hundred percent. When I apply this foundation it applies so smoothly and gently on my skin. It does cover up my scars and any pimples I may have, but it doesn't look like its really giving that extra coverage. I don't know how to explain it. It covers imperfections without giving that overdone look. It is medium coverage with a light coverage look. Your skin shows through the foundation while having imperfections concealed as well. I am very pleased with this foundation! Now that my skin has been clearing up all I need is a little bit, but trust me a little bit is all you need and it does go a long way.

Smell.
I've become so used to this foundation I don't even notice the smell it has anymore. It does have a foundation smell to it, but its not terrible and won't make you feel the need to puke. You get used to it after a while.

Comparisons between the two.
Both give a matte finish, glide on smoothly onto the skin, blends well, sets well and gives a flawless look to the skin. Do not oxidize. True to color and have various colors to suit yellow and beige undertones.

Ending note.
As you can see I love the Neutrogena foundation much more and I will definitely repurchase this foundation.I hope this review and comparison covered any questions that any of my followers may have and I hope this was helpful. I wanted to make sure I covered everything about these foundations. Thank you for reading this review and if I did miss out on anything please fell free to tweet me @kaykaysbag or on instagram at kaykayloves.

Revlon Colorstay Whipped Foundation Review

Heyyy!! So its about time I'm doing a review on this foundation right?? Before anything I will describe what my skin type is. I have very oily skin and I do get breakouts once in awhile when I'm stressed or when its around that time of the month. Ladies you know what I mean! It is difficult for me to find a foundation that will last a long time on my oily skin and won't feel heavy and thick. I remember years ago when I tried the Revlon ColorStay liquid foundation it felt extremely cakey and thick, but I still wore it because at that time I had a beak out and wanted full coverage to cover up all of my pimples and redness. This whipped foundation is nothing like the liquid foundation. The whipped texture feels smooth and glides on very well onto the skin. I would like to point out that I do have scarring on my face from past breakouts so the coverage I look for in foundations is medium to full. When I apply the first layer of foundation onto my skin it does let my skin show through the foundation which also for me means my scars are still visible. Nowadays I just apply concealer on the spots where I need the extra coverage and proceed with powder, but on days that I'm in a rush I'll apply a second layer of this foundation which then gives me full coverage and my scars are no longer visible. This foundation is demi matte which means its neither matte or dewy, but an in between natural finish that gives the skin a settle glow. Now if you have oily skin like me then the word glow probably scares you and you want to stay far away from foundations that give a glow. As for this foundation when I say glow I mean it as a good thing. Its a settle natural glow that does not make your face look oily, but more youthful and smooth.

Their is a white cover over the foundation to keep the surface of the whipped texture smooth and clean

Medium Beige. I am an NC25 in Mac for reference.

I purchased this foundation in Rite Aid for $13.99. Their were only about eight shades of foundation on display which were all light and looked like they could match my skin tone. I noticed the foundations do cater more to people that have yellow or beige undertones. As for me thats perfect because I have yellow and beige undertones which is one of the reasons I purchased this foundation because it is difficult to find foundations that have yellow undertones in drugstores. Most foundations have pink undertones which when oxidized it looks orange. Anyway if you do have yellow undertones and you are looking for a medium to full coverage foundation then I recommend this foundation for you.

What I use:

I bought a pack of twelve spatulas from >>>Sallys Beauty Supply<<< for $1.99. I use a spatula to scoop out the foundation instead of using my fingers or brush which is not sanitary at all. Then I place the foundation on the back of my hand.

The best brush that works great with this foundation and applies it flawlessly onto the skin is this powder brush from >>>elf<<< that only costs $3.00. You can find this brush online or in target stores.
